The origins of our raison d'être: a historic mission
As part of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, Telecom Paris would like to remind you of its role in French research and higher education. Telecom Paris is a leading engineering school, both generalist and specialized in digital issues.
This specialization lies at the heart of the school's educational offering, and is a logical extension of a history that began in 1878 with the founding of the École Supérieure de Télégraphie (EST). Already, the school's founder Louis-Adolphe Cochery specified the mission of the future Telecom Paris: "To provide the State with civil servants, not only up to date with current science, but also ready to hasten its progress.. "
True to this spirit of openness and rigor, Édouard Estaunié inaugurated general culture courses and introduced students to the classical humanities. Édouard Estaunié also coined a term that enjoyed great popularity in the 20th century - before seeming obsolete today: "telecommunications". telecommunications" .

By clarifying and redefining its raison d'être, the company is asserting its ongoing commitment to the "French" concept of the good engineer:

Telecom Paris is "respectful of people" and open: to the future, to the world and to dialogue. It was only natural that Telecom Paris should involve its stakeholders in redefining its raison d'être.
